Baggage Policy on La Costeña Flights

Planning your next trip? Here's everything you need to know about bringing your bags and your gear on board with La Costeña. Our baggage policies are designed to give you flexibility and clarity based on the ticket package you choose. Review the allowance, fees, and tips below to ensure smooth travels.

Baggage Allowance by Fare Type

Your baggage allowance depends on the travel package selected at booking:

Light Package

  • 1 Carry-On Bag: Up to 20 lbs (9 kg)
  • 1 Personal Item: A handbag, purse, or book/laptop bag up to 10 lbs (4.5 kg)

Standard Package

  • 1 Checked Bag: Up to 30 lbs (13.6 kg)
  • 1 Personal Item: As above

Essential Package

  • 1 Carry-On Bag: Up to 20 lbs (9 kg)
  • 1 Checked Bag: Up to 30 lbs (13.6 kg)
  • 1 Personal Item: As above

Checked bag size limit: 45 linear inches / 114 cm (Length + Height + Width)

Carry-On & Personal Items

In addition to your carry-on bag, you may bring the following items into the cabin:

  • A handbag or small purse
  • An umbrella or walking stick
  • Reading material for the flight
  • Infant food for in-flight use
  • An overcoat, wrap or blanket
  • A small camera or pair of binoculars
  • A Laptop computer

Note: If cabin space is limited, your carry-on may need to be checked. Please remove all valuables or fragile items before it is stowed.

Excess Baggage & Additional Fees

  • Excess baggage is charged per pound and treated as standby (subject to space availability)
  • A $2 USD airport fee per person may be collected at the terminal, please bring cash

Traveling with Sports Equipment

We welcome a variety of sports gear onboard. Review the policies below to avoid issues at check-in.

Surfboards

  • Up to 2 surfboards per passenger may be checked for $50 USD per board (each way)
  • Must be part of your free baggage allowance or treated as standby if checked separately
  • Packing Tips:
    • ○ Remove fins
    • ○ Do not pack other items (e.g., clothing) inside the board bag
    • ○ Damaged or poorly packed boards will not be accepted

Other Sports Equipment

One piece of sports equipment per person may be transported, subject to standard overweight/oversize fees:

Golf 1 bag (up to 62 inches) with 14 clubs, 12 balls, and 1 pair of shoes
Diving 1 air regulator, fins, mask, wetsuit, weight belt, and 1 harpoon

Skiing 2 poles, 1 pair of skis and boots


Not Accepted as Baggage:

  • Windsurfing boards
  • Kayaks
  • Surfboards longer than 6.9 ft / 2.1 m
  • Diving tanks

  • Keep valuable items (money, jewelry, electronics) in your carry-on
  • Avoid excess charges by weighing bags before you travel
  • Report any damaged baggage immediately at the airport. La Costeña is not responsible for minor cosmetic wear such as scratches, dents, or missing wheels due to normal handling
