Baggage Questions

1. What is the checked baggage allowance?

  • The allowance includes 1 piece of checked baggage with a maximum weight of 30 lbs / 13.63 kg and up to 45 linear inches / 114 cm (length + height + width).

2. What can I bring as carry-on baggage?

  • In addition to your checked baggage, you are allowed to bring the following items into the cabin (restrictions apply based on ticket fair selected):
  • A lady’s handbag or purse.
  • An umbrella or walking stick.
  • A reasonable amount of reading material for the flight.
  • Infant’s food for consumption during the flight.
  • An overcoat, wrap or blanket.
  • A small camera and/or a pair of binoculars*.
  • A laptop computer.

3. What if there is limited space in the cabin for my carry-on bag?

  • If cabin space is limited, you may be required to check-in your carry-on bag. If this occurs, it is your responsibility to remove all items not suitable for checked baggage.

4. Are there additional fees for excess baggage?

  • Yes, excess baggage will incur an extra fee per pound and will be considered standby bags.
  • Airports will charge a $2.00 fee per person. We recommend carrying this amount in cash.

5. How is sports equipment handled?

  • Surfboards: You can check up to 2 surfboards as part of your free baggage allowance for a fee of US$50 per surfboard each way. If you check them as extra luggage, they will be treated as standby bags. Tips for packing: Remove fins; do not place clothing or other items inside surfboard bags; damaged or insufficiently sturdy packaging is not accepted.
  • Other sports equipment: If you check sports equipment as part of your regular baggage allowance and another item as excess baggage, the sports equipment will be subject to overweight/oversized baggage charges. You may bring one of the following sports equipment per passenger with an extra fee per pound:
  • Fishing: 2 fishing rods, 1 pair of boots, 1 net.
  • Golf: 1 golf bag (up to 62 inches) with up to 14 clubs, 12 golf balls, and 1 pair of golf shoes packed in the bag.
  • Diving: 1 air regulator, 1 pair of rubber fins, 1 conventional harpoon, 1 diving mask, 1 wetsuit, 1 weight belt.
  • Archery: 1 bow and arrows.
  • Skiing: 2 poles, 1 pair each of skis, boots, and shoes.

6. What items are not allowed as baggage?

  • You may not transport:
  • Windsurfing boards.
  • Kayaks.
  • Surfboards exceeding 6.9 ft / 2.1 meters in length.
  • Diving tanks.

7. What are the packing tips?

  • Avoid excess baggage charges by adhering to weight and size requirements.
  • Report any damaged baggage claims before leaving the airport. Note that LA COSTEÑA is not responsible for minor damages, such as scratches, dents, lost wheels, etc., resulting from normal handling or overstuffed bags.
